The anticipation and excitement was palpable at the Beach Chalet Soccer Fields in San Francisco on Saturday. Beautiful sunshine, a blue sky and a light breeze made for perfect conditions for the inaugural SF Glens PDL team tryouts. On display were over 50 talented players from all around the Bay Area, each competing for a place on the SF Glens 2018 roster. A sell-out event, the coaches, players and staff recognized the historic nature of the day for this growing club.
SF Glens Head Coach, Javier Ayala-Hil, commented, "The turn-out is fantastic, lots of quality local players - there are some familiar faces and some new faces. Based on what we have seen today we intend to sign some players immediately." SF Glens President and General Manager, J. Ramon Estevez, was equally excited - he noted "this is a great opportunity for local soccer players - the quality is better than we expected."
The SF Glens open their season May 5th at Boxer Stadium against Santa Cruz Breakers. Their schedule includes some mouth-watering match including a local derby against SF City as well as other notable games with Fresno FC and Venture County Fusion.
The fast-paced build up continues for the SF Glens next Saturday February 10th at Crocker Amazon. The staff are expecting another sell-out (Register Here) and a further opportunity to witness some outstanding soccer. Talented players will showcase their skills and give their all to be part of this fantastic journey that the SF Glens are travelling. A place on the SF Glens 2018 PDL team awaits.
About the San Francisco Glens
Founded in 1961, the San Francisco Glens have been a mainstay of the San Francisco soccer landscape for decades, winning numerous titles in the historic San Francisco Soccer-Football League and competing for National titles throughout the 70’s, 80’s, and 90’s.

A part of the United Soccer Leagues, which also operates the Division II USL, the newly-announced USL Division III and Super Y League, the PDL has served as the proven stepping-stone for aspiring professionals.
Nearly 70 percent of all MLS SuperDraft selections since 2010 have PDL experience, including a total of 59 alums chosen in 2017. Among the many players to have played in the PDL before making their professional debuts include Newcastle United FC defender DeAndre Yedlin, 2017 MLS Goalkeeper of the Year Tim Melia, 2017 MLS Defender of the Year Ike Opara and U.S. Men’s National Team members such as Darlington Nagbe, Brad Guzan, Geoff Cameron and Tim Ream.
