"It was the right time to consolidate our youth and adult brands."

The San Francisco Glens Soccer Club has announced that its youth side will now be known as SF Glens Academy, transitioning from its previous name as SF Glens Evolution.

“Our club has grown rapidly the past few years to the point where we have players from every zip code in San Francisco,” said SF Glens SC executive director Mike McNeill. “With our youth players starting to get more and more opportunities with our adult teams, it was the right time to consolidate our youth and adult brands with the SF Glens Academy name to further communicate the direct connection between the two parts of our one united club pyramid.”

Founded in 1961, the Glens began with two adult amateur teams in the historic SFSFL. In 2011, they established a youth wing with just two Under-11 teams and built out their program every year from the ground up. Four years later, the Glens merged with Evolution FC to become the largest youth club in San Francisco, adopting the name SF Glens Evolution. Soon after, they also entered a partnership with Bay City FC, one of the premier clubs in The City that also boasts one of the top futsal programs in the nation.

Since those unions, the Glens' youth side has added a multitude of programs including NPL Club Status and are Founding Members of both the new USL Academy League and the MLS Elite Youth Development Program, as well as becoming the only club in San Francisco with an Official Partnership in Development with the San Jose Earthquakes. They were also members of the now-defunct U.S. Soccer Development Academy.

On the adult side, the Glens added a First Team in USL League Two in 2018 to sit atop their pyramid, with their squads in the SFSFL becoming their Second and Third Teams. With the Glens' Academy just celebrating their first "graduating class" at the Under-19 stage in 2019, the club has already started to celebrate several SF Glens Academy players elevating to their adult teams in the SFSFL and USL League Two.

You can visit the SF Glens Academy's official website at sfge.org. The site will gradually be making the transition as well, so please be on the lookout for those changes.
