SF nets twice in last seven minutes to shock Davis Legacy in 2-2 draw

DAVIS, Calif. (May 25, 2022) — The San Francisco Glens erased a two-goal deficit in the last seven minutes of the game to capture a point in thrilling fashion Wednesday night, drawing 2-2 with host Davis Legacy.

For the better part of the game, the hosts seemingly had the match in control, settling in a defensive posture after what appeared to be an insurmountable lead.

But unlike previous seasons, this Glens team refused to fold in the second half despite fielding a shorthanded roster. Substitutes Sean Bilter and Junior Mahi made an immediate impact, each notching goals in the waning moments of the match.

"They really gave us some energy and fresh legs," said Glens head coach Gabe Saucedo of the late replacements. "We thought Sean would give us a boost in set pieces and Junior with his speed, and they both used those to perfection tonight."

A 10th-minute volley that scooted past Glens goalkeeper Hugo Dutour gave Davis the opening goal of the game. In the second half, the hosts would add a second after a pinpoint feed inside the box was one-timed into the net.

But Coach Saucedo found the answers on his bench. In the 83rd minute, Bilter cleaned up the mess from a corner kick and fired one home to cut the lead in half. Six minutes later, a second ball from Dutour's long-range distribution bounced right to Mahi, who let it take a bounce before crushing it with his left foot past the goalkeeper's outstretched hands to knot the contest.

"This is a big result," Saucedo said. "As we move forward from [last] Saturday['s loss], this is definitely going to help us down the road mentally."

In a historic moment for the club, three Glens Academy players—current MLS NEXT U19 midfielder Angel Iñiguez and alumni Declan O'Flynn and Diego Grande—made the starting lineup.

The Glens' next game is Sunday 3pm vs. Project 51O at Ohlone College. Watch the live stream HERE.
