A disallowed goal and subsequent red card set the tone in 1-0 defeat

In a much-anticipated battle between the top two teams in the USL League Two Southwest Division, the visiting SoCal Seahorses outlasted the San Francisco Glens at Skyline College last Sunday, 1-0.

The hosts appeared to race out to an early lead when Junior Mahi scooted around his defender to put the ball in the back of the net, but referee Turan Ozdemir ruled that the Glens forward committed a foul in doing so.

Moments later, Ozdemir took issue with the Glens' Dominic Valdivia's words regarding the previous call and presented him with a straight red card, sending him off the pitch in the 21st minute and changing the entire complexion of the game.

The Glens fought valiantly despite being down a man for the final 69 minutes of the game but an Omar Yehya goal shortly before halftime was all SoCal needed to escape with the victory, with San Francisco unable to find a vital equalizer.

The crucial result gave the Seahorses a five-point lead on the Glens in the table. San Francisco remains in the title hunt but their fate is no longer in their hands with four games to play.

The Glens look to rebound on Saturday at 1 p.m. when Davis Legacy comes to Skyline College.
