The San Francisco Glens finished the regular season slate with a 4-2 defeat to Central Valley Fuego 2 last Friday at Fresno Pacific University.
Resting several starters, the team was able to give major minutes to the full roster including three Under-19 players who recently returned from their MLS NEXT Cup final run. One of them, Tony Guzmán, started on the wing and knifed through the back line for a 20th minute goal to erase an early 1-0 deficit, as the Fuego got on the board.
However, the hosts would answer with another goal before halftime and a controversial one to open the second half that had SF appealing for handball to no avail. Eric Pearce would pull one back for the Glens in the 62nd minute from a set-piece header to make it 3-2, but the Fuego would extend their lead with another score moments later.
With the regular season now done, the Glens look ahead to their first ever berth in the USL League Two national playoffs, with matchups and locations to be announced on Monday.
