Both men's and women's teams open with May 7 doubleheader at Skyline vs. Academica SC

SAN FRANCISCO — The San Francisco Glens Soccer Club announced today their USL League Two men's and USL W League women's schedules for the 2023 regular season.

Both teams open their respective 12-game campaigns on Sunday, May 7th when they host their counterparts Academica SC in a doubleheader at Skyline College. The W League match will mark a momentous occasion—the Glens' first ever women's team taking the field in the club's 63-year history.

Academica will return the favor the following Saturday, May 13th, when both Glens teams travel to Turlock for another dual matchup.

"We're always pushing our club to set the standard for San Francisco soccer," said Glens executive director Mike McNeill. "With the addition of a team in the W League to our already existing League Two team, we're proud to offer a pathway for both The City's boys and girls looking to play at the next level one day."

The W League team is off to a hot start, announcing a top-notch staff led by head coach Mike Sharabi and a series of signings pending league approval that includes National Freshman of the Year Elise Evans of Stanford.

The women's schedule in the newly minted NorCal Division includes a pair of San Francisco Derbies with The Olympic Club as well as matchups with 2022 WPSL champion California Storm and fellow expansion clubs Oakland Soul and Stockton Cargo. Local powerhouses Pleasanton Rage and Marin FC Siren round out the docket.

Meanwhile, the League Two team is coming off its most successful season since joining the USL pyramid in 2018. The Glens made the national playoffs for the first time under new head coach Gabe Saucedo and technical director Jimmy Conrad after a successful regular season that included a 4-1 rout over crosstown rivals SF City in the San Francisco Derby and a resounding 4-1 road win over eventual league champion Ventura County Fusion. San Francisco was also the only team to go unbeaten in two games against division winner Oakland Roots Project 51O.

In the postseason, the Glens traveled to Seattle and upset top-seeded Capital FC of Portland before ultimately falling in the Western Conference Semifinal to host Ballard FC in extra time in front of a sellout crowd. The men's team now aims to surpass that mark in 2023.

Last season's schedule gave the fans only one SF Derby; this time there will be a home-and-home series. The Glens will host first on Saturday, June 3rd, followed by SF City's turn on Saturday, July 15th at a location to be determined. The Green and White will also face newcomers Monterey Bay FC II and the other mainstays in the new NorCal Division, Davis Legacy SC and Marin FC Legends.

Both the men's and women's teams will host all games at Skyline with the club's new stadium at Treasure Island still under construction. That said, there will be four opportunities to watch the League Two and W League teams back-to-back at home in doubleheaders—May 7th, May 27th, June 11th and June 25th. Both schedules in detail are now live on sfglens.com.

Ticket information will become available in the upcoming days.
