U.S. Under-19 National Team player pool member earned Big West All-Freshman honors

SAN FRANCISCO — The San Francisco Glens Soccer Club announced today that defender Camryn Penn has signed on for the 2023 USL W League season, pending league approval.

A member of the U.S. Youth National Team player pool at Under-19 level, the Cal Poly San Luis Obispo outside back was named to the 2022 Big West All-Freshman Team after starting in 17 of 19 games and helping the Mustangs notch 10 shutouts. Penn also contributed on the offensive end as she assisted on the game-winning goal that earned the program their first conference regular-season title since 2013.

“I am so excited to play for the SF Glens and for the USL W League,” said Penn. “I can’t wait to play with some of my teammates and work with a such incredible coaching staff. I’ll see you all very soon. Up the Glens!”

Hailing from Foster City, California, the graduate of Hillsdale High School was part of three national championship teams at club with the San Jose Earthquakes Academy, and later with Bay Area Surf. Penn will not only be reunited with several club teammates and coaches, but also with Jessie Halladay, who plays with her at Cal Poly.

“Camryn comes to us after a very successful 2022 season at Cal Poly SLO,” said Glens head coach Mike Sharabi. “She played in every match for them and we are looking forward to her strengthening our back line. She has a standout workrate, which is very important as she begins to play at a higher level.”

"Cami is an intelligent outside back with the ability to create the game from her position,” added assistant coach Jovan Yamagishi. “Not only is she skilled with the ball, her ability to read the game before it happens makes her a tough defender to beat. Her work ethic is unmatched which makes her a joy to coach.”

The San Francisco Glens are entering their first USL W League season in the NorCal Division. Open tryouts will take place March 12 at Skyline College. Register now at sfglens.com/tryouts.
