Two-time club national champion shot-stopper to reinforce strong back line

SAN FRANCISCO — The San Francisco Glens announced today that Isa Bañuelos has signed with the club for the 2023 USL W League season, pending league approval.

The Saint Mary’s goalkeeper is coming off her first season with the Division I Gaels after a club career that includes two national championships with Bay Area Surf. Bañuelos will be reunited with several players from that team.

“I’m so excited to be joining SF Glens this summer as well as play with some former teammates,” said Bañuelos. “Up the Glens and see you guys out on the field soon.”

Originally from Union City, California, Bañuelos also enjoyed a stellar high school soccer career at James Logan. Not only did she captain the Colts her senior year and concede just one goal all season, she also found the net twice on her own.

"Goalkeeper is the most important position on the field; [it's] the last line of defense," said Glens head coach Mike Sharabi. "Isa has proven that she can be counted on to keep her team in every game with her athleticism and shot-stopping ability. We are looking forward to having her in goal with the Glens this summer."

“We are excited to have Isa back with us," said Glens assistant coach Heath Piper. "Not only is she a great shot-stopper, but she always has the ability to come through with the big saves in the big games for us. She is also very good with her feet. Which is very important for the way we want to play.”

The San Francisco Glens are entering their first USL W League season in the NorCal Division. Open tryouts will take place March 11 at Skyline College. Register now at sfglens.com/tryouts.
