Team clinches playoff berth in inaugural USL W League season

The San Francisco Glens improbably came back from a three-goal halftime deficit to earn a thrilling 4-4 draw with California Storm on Sunday afternoon at Skyline College. The result clinched the Glens a spot in the USL W League Playoffs.

With the wind at their back, the Storm came out strong to build a 3-0 halftime lead, including two goals from Eleanor Dale. But the undefeated Glens showed their grit in the second half.

Jasmine Aikey started the comeback in the 61st minute, then Peyton Marcisz struck from deep two minutes later to put the Glens within a goal. Aikey’s second score (67’) leveled the match with her team’s third goal in six minutes.

It didn’t stop there. With a beautiful run and finish, Nádia Gomes gave the Glens their first lead of the game (78’), energizing the Glens faithful at Skyline.

However, the Storm showed impressive resolve as well, capitalizing off of a mistake in the 85th minute to equalize the match and grab an away point.

The Glens head back on the road across the Golden Gate Bridge to face Marin FC Siren on Wednesday, June 28, at 3:45 p.m at College of Marin. They’ll remain away from home for their regular season finale on Sunday, July 2, at Merritt College against Oakland Soul.
