Gomes' 76th-minute winner boosts USL W League side to 3-2 victory

The San Francisco Glens overcame Marin FC Siren 3-2 Wednesday afternoon at College of Marin to clinch the USL W League NorCal Division title.

The Glens stormed out to an early 2-0 lead through strikes from Jasmine Aikey (18') and Jessie Halladay (37'). However, Marin quickly returned the favor with two goals of its own to tie the match in the 54th minute.

Needing all three points to secure the division crown Wednesday, Nádia Gomes put things into her own hands — or feet, really. In the 76th minute, she controlled a cross in the air with her right foot, then spun around and fired a shot into the back of the net with her left, not letting the ball hit the turf. That goal was enough for the Glens to outlast Marin and win a division title in the team's first season in the USL W League.

The Glens will attempt to complete an undefeated regular season against Oakland Soul on Sunday, July 2, at 2 p.m. at Merritt College.
