Gomes hat trick carries Glens into Western Conference Final

The San Francisco Glens took care of business in the first round of the USL W League playoffs with a resounding 5-1 win over Oakland Soul on Friday afternoon at Skyline College.

The Glens struck early thanks to Nadia Gomes (4’) and tacked on another just five minutes later as Carina Lageyre beat the keeper to put the Glens up 2-0. The Glens would add on once more in the dying embers of the first half, as Gomes sent a screamer from outside the box to make it 3-0 in stoppage time.

The Glens would pick up right where they left off with an Elle Piper goal in the 47th minute to extend the lead to 4-0. Gomes completed her hat trick with an 80th-minute goal. Oakland Soul got a goal back in the 87th minute to avoid the shutout, but it wasn’t enough to keep up with the Glens.

The Glens will host the winner of this afternoon's contest between California Storm and Oly Town FC in the USL W League Western Conference Final. Kickoff is set for Sunday at 12:30 p.m. back at Skyline College.
