Carina Lageyre's late winner lifts Glens in tighly contested match

The San Francisco Glens took down California Storm 2-1 Sunday afternoon at Skyline College to come out on top of the USL W League Western Conference.

Storm didn't take long to strike first, taking the lead inside of two minutes with the wind behind them. But the Glens weren't in unfamiliar territory; Storm scored first in each of the three matches between the clubs.

In first-half stoppage time, Peyton Marcisz found the end of a cross by Nádia Gomes and tapped it into the net to equalize just before the break.

Both defenses held strong throughout the second half, as neither team found many serious offensive chances. That is, until Carina Lageyre's screamer from outside the box in the 88th minute finally gave the Glens the lead for good.

The Glens now advance to the USL W League National Semifinal against Indy Eleven. That match will take place Friday, July 14, at Grand Park in Indianapolis at 7 p.m. CST/5 p.m. PST.
