Longtime soccer journalist, nonprofit PR professional joins Glens

SAN FRANCISCO (Dec. 11, 2023) — The San Francisco Glens Soccer Club announced today that the club has hired Joel Soria as Director of Communications and Partnerships. He will oversee communications, marketing, media relations, partnerships for the club, and operations for the club’s USL League Two and USL W League teams as well as the SF Glens Academy, an MLS NEXT and USL Academy member.

“Joel is an impressive professional, and his addition to our front office signals our commitment to making this project a success,” said SF Glens Executive Director Mike McNeill. “His understanding of the local soccer market and his technical expertise make me confident that the team can continue to build something special for our club and our community.”

Soria comes to the Glens after three years in the nonprofit industry and five years as a soccer journalist, where his coverage of the San Jose Earthquakes and the English Premier League was featured for outlets such as NBC Sports Soccer, Sky Sports, Yahoo! Sports, and MLSsoccer.com, among others.

“It’s an honor to be part of such a historic institution with a really promising future,” said Soria. “The club is in an exciting position to continue to grow and win. I’m convinced that together we will achieve our objectives. I want to thank Executive Director Mike McNeill and the Board of Directors for the opportunity. Up the Glens!”

Soria, who will report directly to McNeill, boasts an extensive career in soccer journalism and media within Bay Area professional soccer, working in print, digital, and broadcast positions for over five years. In addition to working in soccer journalism, he was also a Communications Associate for Innovate Public Schools, where he led the organization’s strategic content and marketing, subscriber communication, and media relations.
