Longtime Bay Area sports executive to lend business, fundraising expertise to club

San Francisco (April 18, 2024) - The San Francisco Glens Soccer Club announced today the appointment of David Kao to their Board of Directors.

Kao recently completed his second season as the Chief Operating Officer of the NBA G League’s Santa Cruz Warriors, where he oversees the franchise’s day-to-day business operations.

“It’s an honor and a privilege to join the SF Glens Board of Directors,” said Kao. “What this soccer club has done for the community to bring the youth and adults together speaks volumes for the leadership group. I am excited to join a team of like-minded, passionate individuals and work towards a common goal, which is to forward the clubs to compete at the highest level and develop youth players on and off the field. What I admire about the SF Glens is the focus on sport and community, which is why I chose to work in the sports industry in the first place.”

In the 2023-24 season, the Warriors led the G League in overall revenue, including highest gate receipts per game, as well as setting a G League record in corporate partnership revenue. Since December 16 of last year, the Santa Cruz Warriors have sold out 18 consecutive home games at Kaiser Permanente Arena.

“The Board of Directors is honored to welcome David to the SF Glens,” said Board of Directors President Paddy Coyne. “With the club entering an exciting juncture in our history, it’s especially vital we add invaluable leadership to our board. In addition, Dave’s experience in basketball and other sports offers a diverse perspective and will be an asset going forward.”

Prior to his arrival, Kao was the Associate Athletic Director at UC Berkeley, where he led the department’s annual ticket sales and marketing strategic plans for 11 sports. Under his guidance, the Cal Athletics ticketing team set ticket revenue and attendance records for football, men’s and women’s basketball, baseball and softball.

Before his tenure at Cal, Kao served as the Director of Group Sales & Fundraising for the Oakland Raiders in 2012. Kao started his career with the Warriors organization with the Golden State franchise as a Ticket Sales Representative. Kao graduated from Drexel University with a Master of Science degree in Sport Management and received his undergraduate degree from Cal Poly Pomona in Microbiology with a minor in Chemistry. In his free time, Kao enjoys the outdoors, playing the guitar and traveling with his wife, Kelly.
