Guest named new head coach of League Two side

SAN FRANCISCO (May 9, 2024) — The San Francisco Glens Soccer Club today announced their coaching staff for the 2024 USL League Two season, appointing Liam Guest as the team’s new head coach.

A UEFA “B” licensed coach, Guest, who served both as an assistant coach and a player for the Glens in seasons prior, brings years of managerial experience at the collegiate level, with stops at Holy Names University and Lincoln University.

“We are delighted to welcome Guest as our head coach,” said SF Glens executive director Mike McNeill. “We’re confident his leadership and experience, especially within our club, will help elevate our team to new heights this season.”

A Derbyshire, England native, Guest started his career playing for Notts County FC’s Under-21 team before moving stateside to play at Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Florida, where he earned first team All-SCC honors.

“First of all, I would like to thank Executive Director Mike McNeill and Gabe Saucedo for this opportunity,” said Guest. “I am very proud to step up as the head coach of the USL League Two team this season.

“I have been fortunate enough to be a player, assistant coach and now head coach. Coach Gabe Saucedo has done an amazing job, and I am very excited to step up and to carry the torch that has already been lit. I am lucky to have a great coaching staff joining me this season. Our player pool is strong, and we can’t wait to kick off the season this Saturday.”

Assistant coaches Roheet Sen, Alberto Millán, Gabe Saucedo and goalkeeper coach Alejandro Muñoz round out the group.

Assistant coach Sen joins the club from De Anza College, where he is currently the first assistant for the men’s soccer team. Additionally, Sen is an MLS Next head coach for De Anza Force Soccer Club. Sen is originally from San Jose, California and studied kinesiology at Arizona State University.

Saucedo, who is entering his fifth season on the staff, recently executed two successful back-to-back campaigns as the head coach of the USL League Two team. The team set club records in the League Two era for wins, points, goals scored, goals conceded, goal differential and assists in his first season. Saucedo now assumes one of the assistant roles under Guest, a previous assistant in the team’s playoff seasons.

Millán is a USSF “B” and UEFA “A” licensed coach with stops at several recognized academies, including Real Salt Lake and Phoenix Rising. A native of Puerto Peñasco, Mexico, Millán began his coaching journey in 2013 at Gateway Community College in Phoenix after a collegiate career at King University.

Muñoz rejoins the staff as goalkeeper coach after playing for the SF Glens League Two playoff team  in 2022 and coaching goalkeepers for the University of San Francisco women. Born and raised in San Francisco, he played collegiate soccer at USF, earning West Coast Conference Player of the Week accolades as a senior. Before his time at the Hilltop, he played at club level for Juventus SC, the San Jose Earthquakes Academy and De Anza Force, along with stints in the famed Mexican pro academies Club León and C.D. Guadalajara, also known as Chivas.

The San Francisco Glens kick off their 2024 USL League Two campaign on the road against newcomers Almaden FC this Saturday, May 11 at Pioneer High School in San Jose. Home tickets for the season will go on sale at sfglens.com/tickets next week.
