The Glens are incredibly proud to celebrate long-time academy player Shane Lonergan as he takes the next step in his soccer journey, playing for Harvard University this year!
Throughout his time with the Glens, Shane made remarkable strides both on and off the field. He had the invaluable opportunity to train with Holstein Kiel Academy in Germany and competed in the MLS Next Playoffs, where he showcased his skills on the national stage, helping the Glens reach the finals.
Reflecting on his time with the club, Shane shared, "The Glens helped me become more disciplined and gave me a new outlook on the game. I’ve developed a clear vision of playing professionally, and the Glens were instrumental in shaping that dream. The sky is the limit for the Glens, and I hope to come back and see future success with the club."
Shane also extended heartfelt thanks to those who supported his journey. "First and foremost, I want to thank my family for their unwavering support from day one. I’m also grateful to Coach Josh Shapiro, Coach Harkin, and Coach Jordie, who convinced me that Harvard was the perfect fit with their enthusiasm, ambition, and respect for me as both a player and a person. A special thanks to Mike McNeill, who has played a fundamental role in my development, offering me opportunities I wouldn’t have found anywhere else, and to Guero Medina, who shaped me as both a player and a person. Guero’s values of family and hard work are lessons I’ll carry with me always. My coaches Robbie Rix and Danny Kirkland have never let me settle for less, always pushing me to improve, and I couldn’t be more thankful for that. And lastly, thanks to Ryan Maquinana, whose personal sacrifices and unwavering dedication to the Glens throughout my time at the club were truly inspiring.”
Everyone at the SF Glens is excited to see Shane thrive at Harvard and will be cheering him on as he pursues his dream!
