SAN FRANCISCO, CA (February 13, 2025) – The San Francisco Glens are excited to announce the return of Javier Ayala-Hil as head coach for the USL League Two Glens ahead of the 2025 season. Ayala-Hil, who previously led the Glens during their first two seasons in the league (2018-2019), brings a wealth of experience in player development and coaching at both the collegiate and professional levels.
Ayala-Hil took the helm in 2018 when the Glens joined USL League Two, then known as the USL PDL. During his two-year tenure, he oversaw the development of multiple players who went on to successful careers in the professional ranks. Under his leadership, the Glens saw five players selected in the MLS SuperDraft, including two first-round picks, while seven more players earned professional contracts.
In addition to his success with the Glens’ League Two team, Ayala-Hil coached the club’s Under-16 team in the NPL Champions League, where he played a crucial role in the development of young talent. Four of his youth players earned promotions to the USL2 First Team.
“I’m excited to return to the San Francisco Glens and continue helping players as they aspire to play at the next level. This program has always been a great platform for development, and I’m committed to providing the guidance and support they need to maximize their potential. I’m also thankful to the organization for giving me another opportunity to coach at this level and be part of a club that is always looking to progress and improve,” said Ayala-Hil.
Beyond his contributions to the Glens, Ayala-Hil has an extensive background in collegiate coaching. He served as the head coach of the San Francisco State men’s soccer program from 2016 to 2018, leading the team to its first playoff berth in nearly four decades and earning CCAA Men’s Soccer Coach of the Year honors in 2017. He has also held assistant coaching positions at the University of San Francisco and the University of California-Berkeley, his alma mater, where he was a standout forward.
As a player, Ayala-Hil enjoyed a distinguished collegiate career at Cal, scoring 19 goals and recording nine assists in 60 career appearances. His success at the NCAA level led to his selection in the 2008 MLS Supplemental Draft by Chivas USA, and he went on to play professionally in the United States, Puerto Rico, Germany, and Thailand. Currently, he is the founder and academy director of the Bay Area Soccer Academy, an education and mentorship program for aspiring youth players.
With Ayala-Hil’s return, the Glens reaffirm their commitment to player development and competitive success in USL League Two. The club is eager to build on its rich history and continue providing a platform for top talent in San Francisco and greater Bay Area.
The San Francisco Glens are thrilled to kick off their inaugural season at the iconic Treasure Island, marking a new chapter for the club by providing fans and players with a brand new, soccer-specific venue and training facility.
