San Francisco now returns home for their inaugural match at Treasure Island Stadium this Sunday.

San Francisco Glens SC sustained their first loss of the 2025 USL W League season Wednesday evening at the University of San Francisco’s Negoesco Stadium, falling 4-3 to crosstown foe Olympic Club in a back-and-forth battle.

Olympic Club’s Raniya Burton scored her second goal of the evening in the 85th minute, untying the match after a penalty kick goal from the Glens’ Francesca Johnson leveled the match at 3-3 minutes prior.

Johnson drew a foul in the box after her gutsy, physical play on the touchline won her possession, allowing her to press the ball into the area and eventually score her first goal of the young season.

Five goals were scored between the two sides in the second half, and while it was held scoreless for most of the first half, San Francisco put pressure on Olympic Club’s defensive line early. Vanessa Aguilar recorded two shots on goal in the ‘8 and ‘27, but both attempts were repelled by Olympic Club’s keeper.

Minutes after Aguilar’s second such attempt, a Glens giveaway deep in their defensive half allowed Olympic Club’s Madison Donati to convert from close range and give the hosts a 1-0 lead.

San Francisco equalized in the 42nd minute on a timely give-and-go between Kate Nunes and Kaylee Kim, with the former dishing the ball off to the latter before Kim returned the favor, allowing Nunes to finish and level the match at one goal apiece heading into the half.

Five minutes into the second stanza, a well-placed long ball from Kathryn Kelly allowed Aguilar to finally break through. The midfielder and University of Washington commit successfully controlled Kelly’s pass and muscled the ball past the keeper to put the Glens ahead 2-1.

However, a pair of goals for Olympic Club from Gina Woodward and Raniya Burton promptly put Olympic Club ahead 3-2, setting the stage for the contests’ two deciding scores.

The defeat was the Glens’ first at the hands of Olympic Club since joining W League in 2023, moving their all-time record in the matchup to 3-1-0.

After two road fixtures to open the season, the Glens’ W League squad bookends the inaugural doubleheader with San Francisco’s USL League Two team at Treasure Island Stadium this Sunday, May 18. The men’s side plays Monterey Bay II at 1 PM before the women return to the pitch with a 4 PM kickoff against Academia.
