Wednesday’s success gives San Francisco its fourth win in five contests to begin the season.

San Francisco Glens SC (4-1-0) defeated Almaden FC (3-2-1) for the second time this season Wednesday night, this time prevailing 3-1 on the road at San Jose’s Pioneer High School in USL League Two regular season play.

After winning May 24 at home 1-0 on a third-minute goal from Saul Tecle, the Glens again opened the scoring courtesy of an own goal by Almaden defender Max Gillies in the 41st minute.

Entering halftime with a 1-0 advantage, San Francisco was able to bolster its lead as Tecle’s team-leading third goal of the season in the 65th minute put the visitors ahead 2-0.

Tecle was named the 2024 Junior College Division III National Player of the Year after scoring 27 goals in his freshman campaign at Las Positas College in Livermore. In February, the forward committed to play for UC Davis beginning in the coming collegiate season.

Four minutes after Tecle’s score, Godwin Antwi ‒ a halftime substitute by Head Coach Javier Ayala-Hil and his staff ‒ collected his first goal of 2025 to put the Glens ahead 3-0 and all-but-secured a second road victory in three matches this season. Almaden’s Yoan Ponio would score in the 90th minute to complete the contest’s scoring as San Francisco left the South Bay with three points.

The Glens’ victory moved them into second place in the nine-team NorCal Division with 12 points in five matches played, surpassing third-place Almaden’s 10 points in six contests.

In League Two’s Western Conference, the top two teams in each division advance to the 35-team USL League Two Playoffs ‒ San Francisco fell just short of qualification for the 2024 postseason.

More road matches are forthcoming, as the club visits Monterey Bay II this Saturday and Project 51O next Wednesday. Following the conclusion of their stretch away from home, the Glens play crosstown rivals San Francisco City FC on June 14, hosting the San Francisco Derby for the first time at Treasure Island.
