San Francisco Glens SC (4-1-1, second in the Nor Cal Division) drew 1-1 with Monterey Bay FC II (0-7-1, ninth in the Nor Cal Division) Saturday night at CSU Monterey Bay’s Cardinale Stadium, securing points for a third consecutive match in the second and final showdown between the two sides of the 2025 USL League Two campaign.
San Francisco opened Treasure Island Stadium on May 18 with a 3-0 victory over this same Monterey side. On Saturday from California’s Central Coast, it again opened the scoring to take an early first-half lead.
Diego Grande - a Pacifica native, product of the Glens’ Academy and member of the club’s League Two side since 2022 - found the back of the net in the 10th minute to give the visitors a 1-0 advantage.
Playing the midfield position collegiately for Dominican University of California in San Rafael, Grande rounded out his collegiate career with the Penguins by scoring a career-high six goals in his 2024 senior campaign.
The score gave San Francisco its 10th goal of the season, making it one of four clubs in League Two’s Nor Cal Division to net double-digit goals so far in 2025.
However, after taking a one-goal lead into the locker rooms, the Glens conceded in the 52nd second minute on a score by Monterey’s Mason Ward. The match remained even for the duration of play, allowing the hosts to collect their first point of the campaign.
Behind goalkeepers Marcelo Guerra and Lucas Jones - Guerra got the nod as the netminder Saturday - San Francisco has allowed the fewest goals of any Nor Cal Division club this season, conceding just five in six matches played.
The Glens hit the road again Wednesday against Project 51O before returning to Treasure Island for the San Francisco Derby against SF City on Saturday.
