Anya Lin scored an impressive goal late in the second half to put San Francisco on the scoreboard Saturday.

San Francisco Glens SC (2-5-1) fell to the Pleasanton Rage (3-1-1) by a score of 2-1 on Saturday night from the Stanford Medicine Sports Complex, coming up short in their quest for their first victory away from Treasure Island this season.

Though San Francisco pressed the ball into its attacking end early, Pleasanton jumped out to a lead in the fifth minute when a low line-drive struck by the Rage’s Natalie O’Sullivan snuck into the goal to give the hosts a 1-0 advantage.

Shortly before the half, Pleasanton would double its edge when O’Sullivan again slotted home a goal into the left corner, securing a brace and a 2-0 lead for her side at the break.

The Glens charged hard to start the second half, relying on Angelena Akanyirige to pick up where she left off from the previous Wednesday’s contest against the California Storm and continue to force the issue offensively from the wing.

Starting from the right sideline with a throw-in, San Francisco broke through in the 76th minute after switching the ball over to the left wing and placing the ball at the feet of Anya Lin. Lin navigated her way through defenders and bounced the ball past the Pleasanton keeper to cut the deficit to 2-1.

Despite persistent efforts following Lin’s score, the visitors were unable to add on, failing to tie the match before time expired. After finding the back of the net just once in the hard-fought defeat Saturday, the Glens still rank second in the Nor Cal Division in goals scored this season with 21 in eight matches played.

San Francisco returns to the pitch Wednesday in Davis against California Storm at 7 PM before taking on Olympic Club at home this Saturday.
