Attacker Godwin Antwi collected a hat trick Wednesday to propel San Francisco’s 6-0 victory.

San Francisco Glens SC (6-2-3, second in the Nor Cal Division) defeated Academica SC (2-2-5, sixth in the Nor Cal Division) 6-0 on Wednesday afternoon from Treasure Island, picking up a crucial victory in USL League Two standings amidst the push for a top-two finish and a postseason berth.

The Glens won courtesy of a shutout from goalkeeper Thomas Grimes and their backline and three goals from attacker Godwin Antwi.

In the fourth minute, San Francisco threatened when a long-range attempt from Florentino Junior bounced off of the post after a deflection from keeper Haidyn Stevens. Federico Barbieri’s subsequent rebounded shot went over the goal for an Academica goal kick.

Just a minute later, Antwi would gain possession and streak up the right side, slotting the ball past Stevens to give the Glens a 1-0 lead and backing up his goal in Saturday’s victory against Marin FC Legends with another score.

Antwi would then burst ahead of the Academica defense in the 14th minute, scoring on a one-on-one with the visiting keeper from near the top of the box to put San Francisco ahead 2-0 and secure a brace less than one-third of the way into the opening half.

Niall Connor, a member of the U19 Glens who will play with Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges in the fall, snatched the ball away from Academica defenders in the 39th minute, charging ahead with pace and curling his shot around the keeper for San Francisco's third goal in the stanza.

Early in the second half, the visitors tested Grimes, as the UC Berkeley keeper had to save two consecutive shots from Academica’s Julian Lomeli before clearing away a final attack from the visitors.

This kept the clean sheet intact and allowed San Francisco to take a 4-0 lead when Shane Lonergan rebounded a saved Adrian Guzman Jr. free kick. The close look on-frame allowed the Glens Academy product Lonergan to score and give the Glens a commanding advantage.

In the 70th minute, Keita Goto set up Diego Grande for a score, San Francisco’s only assisted goal of the contest, before Antwi netted his third goal of the contest two minutes later as the hosts led 6-0.

The Glens take the pitch at Treasure Island for the final time this regular season Sunday, facing Project 51O with a noon kickoff.

San Francisco’s USL W League side will host Oakland Soul after the League Two contest, with that match beginning at 3 PM.
