San Francisco Glens SC (3-7-2) fell to Oakland Soul SC (8-2-2) by a score of 4-3 on Sunday afternoon from Treasure Island Stadium, coming up short in a back-and-forth contest in its final USL W League match of the season.
Sunday was the first Glens appearance on the campaign for Elise Evans; the Stanford defender hailing from Redwood City enters her senior year with the Cardinal this fall.
The Pac-12 Freshman of the Year in 2022 – Evans also captured a bronze medal with the U-20 Women’s Youth National Team in the 2024 FIFA U-20 World Cup – the defender has shown an ability to score from the backline collegiately with five goals in three seasons.
Evans put San Francisco ahead with a goal in the ninth minute before Alison Montoya quickly equalized for Oakland five minutes later to reset the contest.
The Glens grabbed the advantage right back in the 23rd minute.
Duke University stalwart Elle Piper scored off of a cross from a corner kick, concluding her strong campaign for the home side as they led 2-1.
However, two goals in short succession from Soul’s Joelle Jung flipped the match, with her scores in the 41st and 45th minute putting Oakland ahead 3-2 at the half. Out of the break, Samantha Tran would double the advantage for the visitors with a goal in the 60th minute.
San Francisco’s Jessie Halladay capped off her impressive campaign for the W League side with a response two minutes later as the Cal Poly forward/midfielder scored her seventh goal in three matches this season.
In front of an energetic crowd filled with Bay Area soccer fans, the Glens were unable to equalize in the last part of the match, ending with the campaign with a 4-3 defeat.
San Francisco secured all three of its 2025 victories at San Francisco Glens Stadium as it completed its inaugural season at the club’s new Treasure Island facility Sunday.
