San Francisco Glens SC (7-3-4, tied-second in the Nor Cal Division) defeated Marin FC Legends (3-8-2, seventh in the Nor Cal Division) 4-2 on Wednesday evening at College of Marin to wrap up the regular season with three points and potentially extend its USL League Two campaign.
Playing on clear-yet-windy day in Kentfield, San Francisco kept its postseason hopes alive with four goals from four different players.
UC Berkeley midfielder Isaiah Thomas opened the scoring in the ninth minute before his collegiate teammate Malcolm Zalayet evened the match for the hosts in the 25th minute – the score remained 1-1 heading into the half.
In the 54th minute, Adrian Guzman Jr. – another member of the Golden Bears – combined with Saul Tecle to give San Francisco the lead.
Guzman Jr. assertively drove the ball through the middle of the field before swinging a pass on the right wing to Tecle, who waited for an opening and found Guzman Jr. again, allowing him to laser in a left-footed strike and put the visitors ahead 2-1.
Entering the match as a halftime substitute, Tecle forced the issue offensively for the Glens once more in the 75th minute. Tecle drove on the left wing and crossed the ball to Shane Lonergan, allowing Lonergan to quickly pass the ball across to Grande, who promptly slotted home San Francisco’s third goal.
Tecle is heading into his first season with UC Davis this fall after winning the Junior College Division III National Player of the Year in 2024 with Las Positas College, and in the 84th minute he scored a goal of his own to give the Glens a 4-1 lead.
Jack Grossman received a pass at the top of the box and played a through ball between Legends defenders to find Tecle. Tecle patiently took two touches before firing the ball past the outstretched arm of the goalkeeper and just under the cross bar, ending both a strong contest and regular season for the attacker with a goal.
Marin FC answered in the 88th minute on a score from Luis Guzman as San Francisco still collected its fourth multi-goal victory of the season.
The Glens won 2-1 in the previous matchup against Marin FC on June 21 from Treasure Island, getting goals from Godwin Antwi and Florentino Junior in the first six minutes while limiting their opponents to just a second-half penalty goal for Zalayet.
There is still a chance Wednesday’s contest was not the final one in 2025 for the Glens.
The top-two teams in the Nor Cal Division advance to the League Two Playoffs. Almaden FC and San Francisco are tied with 25 points as the former concludes its regular season Saturday against Academica SC.
If Almaden were to lose its final contest, the Glens would go through to the postseason because they won both matches against Almaden in 2025 and would be tied or ahead in goal differential, depending on the margin.
Having concluded the inaugural season at San Francisco Glens Stadium on Treasure Island, head coach Javier Ayala-Hil matched last year’s mark of 25 regular season points in his third campaign in his position the club.
Ayala-Hil returned to the helm in 2025 after coaching the Glens in 2018 and 2019, San Francisco’s first two League Two seasons.
