Attacking midfielder brings USL experience to squad

The SF Glens continued to reinforce their attack ahead of their inaugural season in the Premier Development League (PDL) with the signing of seasoned midfielder Minh Vu.

"Minh comes with a lot of experience previously playing in the PDL and USL," head coach Javier Ayala-Hil said. "He is someone that is highly motivated and likes to compete whenever possible."

A native of Tuscon, Arizona, Vu enjoyed a successful college career, first at Pima Community College (2009-10), where he was a junior college First-Team All-American after amassing 15 goals and 14 assists his sophomore year. He then moved on to Penn State (2011-13), where he earned the Big Ten Tournament Offensive MVP award. In all, Vu collected six goals and six assists during his time in Happy Valley.

"I think I can bring some composure to the midfield, as well as being able to take defenders on wide in '1v1' situations," Vu said. "I'm looking forward to creating and combining up top with attacking players."

Vu subsequently entered the professional ranks of the United Soccer League (USL), first with the Rochester Rhinos (2014) and then with Arizona United (2016), now known as Phoenix Rising FC. Vu is also familiar with the PDL, having been a member of FC Tuscon (2016). At those aforementioned three stops, he scored five goals in 26 appearances.

"My goal is to get into the USL again," Vu added. "I came to the Glens because I like the way Javier coaches, and also because I see this as an opportunity to start somewhere anew and help the team grow."

The SF Glens open their season May 5th at Boxer Stadium against the Santa Cruz Breakers. Their schedule includes some mouth-watering matches, including a local derby against SF City FC as well as other notable games with Fresno FC and Ventura County Fusion.
