Rei Dorwart shines in new right back role but The City Bhoys still searching for first win

APTOS, California — The San Francisco Glens led the host Santa Cruz Breakers in possession, scoring opportunities, and shots.

Unfortunately for the visitors, the one advantage they didn’t have on Saturday was on the scoreboard, as the Breakers beat the Glens 1-0 for the second time in a week.

“I’m proud of the team for battling from start to finish,” said team president/GM J. Ramon Estevez. “Obviously I wish the result were different, but they made some great strides, especially in the second half. Now it’s just a matter of putting the ball in the back of the net.”

The lone goal occurred in the 15th minute when Walmer Martinez found an opening in the Glens’ defense and slotted a shot past goalkeeper Emmanuel Jiménez.

Despite the loss, several bright spots emerged. Rei Dorwart earned Soccerloco Man of the Match honors for his well-rounded play despite having to play a new position. The erstwhile forward has been converted to right back and provided a spark on both defense and offense.

The Glens now return home to Boxer Stadium on Thursday, May 24 at 5:30 p.m. for a clash with LA Galaxy’s Under-23 affiliate, the San Diego Zest. All college students, SF Unified students, and SF Unified faculty will enjoy free admission with ID. Single-game tickets ($10) and free Youth Season Passes are available on SFGlens.com.
