Pac-12 scoring champ becomes first SF Glens player to receive honor

SAN FRANCISCO — Shinya Kadono made history Thursday when he became the first San Francisco Glens SC player in franchise history to be invited to the adidas Major League Soccer Combine.

Kadono, the reigning Pac-12 scoring champion after putting 12 balls in the back of the net this past NCAA season, will travel to Orlando City Stadium in Orlando, Fla., along with 59 other invitees for the Combine, which will take place from Jan. 3-9.

Combine participants will play scrimmages in front of scouts representing all MLS teams. Players will also undergo various tests and speak to interested clubs heading into the Jan. 11 MLS SuperDraft at McCormick Place Convention Center in Chicago. 2019 expansion team FC Cincinnati will have the number one overall pick.

About San Francisco Glens SC

Originally founded in 1961 by the Irish-American community, the Glens have been a mainstay of the San Francisco soccer landscape for decades, winning numerous amateur titles in the historic San Francisco Soccer Football League and competing for national titles throughout the ‘70s, ‘80s, and ‘90s.

The addition of the San Francisco Glens’ USL League Two team in 2018 to the top of the club’s pyramid is the latest evidence of growth on their path to the professional ranks. Along with their youth club, SF Glens Evolution—a U.S. Soccer Development Academy member—the Glens are the largest soccer club in San Francisco, providing all levels of competition to over 70 teams and 1,300 youth and adult soccer players.
